Soi 55 – Awesome Thai Milk Tea at One Shenton! (CLOSED)

*Soi 55 @ Shenton has closed down and shifted to Old Airport Road Food Centre.

It sure is exciting at One Shenton nowadays! Soi 55 Thai Milk Tea has officially set up shop here, just shortly after the opening of Yu Tang Clan beside.

Soi 55 started out with humble beginnings at local farmers’ markets and private events in Singapore, before opening its first permanent branch at Golden Shoe Food Centre in 2014, followed by a second branch at The Cathay in 2015.

I remember always craving for Soi 55’s delicious cha yen (Thai word for Thai iced tea) after lunch in Golden Shoe, and many of my peers working in the area were big fans of the drinks too. The Golden Shoe outlet is now closed with the opening of the new branch at One Shenton (near Asia Square).

Compared with the Golden Shoe / The Cathay outlets, I really like the design of the new branch. It retains the original black and white stripes design at the counter, but it now has a big circular signboard mounted against a lighted wooden backdrop above. On the whole, it exudes a vibe which is classy and yet endearing.

Delicious Thai Iced Milk Tea!

But the impressive facade would come to naught if the drinks did not pass muster. I enjoyed the Thai Iced Milk Tea ($3.90) with its velvety texture and delicate sweetness. And it was not cloyingly sweet at all. On the whole, the impression was one of artful balance in the flavour and texture of the drink.

If you have a sweet palate, you might prefer the Thai Green Milk Tea ($3.90). This variant has a richer flavour than the Thai Iced Milk Tea but it’s delicious too and great for people who prefer something sweeter. I would definitely go for this option on days when I have a sugar craving.

Awesome Drinks Stall in CBD!

I am glad that Soi 55 is continuing it’s tradition of serving delicious and affordable Thai Milk Tea. Office workers in the vicinity (Asia Square, One Raffles Quay, etc) will be happy to know that there is now one more awesome drinks stall in the area other than Gong Cha. On the day of its soft launch, Soi 55 even gave out its drinks for free! Another reason to support this up and coming establishment. Be sure to drop by Soi 55 soon for your Thai Milk Tea fix!
