Taiyaki NYC – Japanese Ice Cream Shop in New York City!
It was late at night and we were rushing to Taiyaki NYC, a Japanese ice cream shop in Manhattan, New York City. We arrived at 9.45pm and were really happy to see that it had not closed yet! Also read: 12 Best Places to Eat in Manhattan, New York City
Taiyaki NYC
“Taiyaki” is actually the name of a Japanese fish-shaped pastry, and you can order this traditional dessert at Taiyaki NYC. In addition, the founders also decided to invent a dessert that combines ice cream, waffles, and Taiyaki – and the famous Ice Cream Taiyaki was borned! This fusion dessert comprises delicious ice cream served in a fish-shaped waffle.
The shop prides itself on using top quality ingredients. The waffles are made on-site, and the soft serve ice cream is created in small quantities so as to produce the best taste.
Cozy Space with Friendly Staff
We liked the cozy shop interior with its pastel-coloured furnishings and clean design. When we visited, the shop was manned by a few friendly Asians.
Straight Outta Japan
After some thought, we decided to order Straight Outta Japan ($7), which consisted of tasty black sesame and matcha ice cream, topped with chewy mochi and crunchy wafer toppings. The waffle base was filled with sweet red bean filling. Not only did the dessert look pretty, it tasted awesome too! The black sesame and matcha soft serve were a surprisingly good match, and these sweet ice cream flavours were balanced nicely by the more subtle red bean filling and waffle. The mochi and wafer toppings completed the satisfying dessert experience.
