Lin Ji Fish Soup and Porridge 林记鱼汤鱼粥 – Fantastic Fish Soup at Boon Lay Place Food Village
I almost didn’t want to share about Lin Ji Fish Soup and Porridge (林记鱼汤鱼粥) at Boon Lay Place Food Village, because the queue at this stall is always very long during peak hours! Personally I feel that this is one of the best fish soups in Singapore.
Lin Ji Fish Soup and Porridge (林记鱼汤鱼粥)
Lin Ji Fish Soup and Porridge is helmed by a husband and wife team. The husband is in charge of cooking the fish soup, while the wife helps with taking orders and serving.
One of the reasons I like coming here is because the smiling lady boss is super nice and friendly. It is quite rare to find such genial hawkers in Singapore!
Awesome Fish Soup!
But of course, the main reason why I visit this stall very frequently is because of the delicious fish soup!
The soup has the perfect balance of savoury and sweet, with its light savoury taste complimented by the fresh scent of coriander.
Many fish soups in Singapore overdo it with too much MSG or oil, so I was pleasantly surprised by the lightness of Lin Ji’s variant.
The stall is quite generous with the fish slices, which have a firm but delicate texture. They taste great and have no fishy smell at all.
Most of the times, I will order the large portion fish soup with thick bee hoon ($6), which is how I like to enjoy fish soup. Alternatively, I will have the fish soup with a bowl of rice.

Conclusion
With its great service and delicious fish soup, it is no wonder that there is always a long queue at this discreet stall in Boon Lay Market. This hidden gem is already well-known in the quiet neighbourhood, but hopefully more Singaporeans will get to know about this fantastic fish soup. The stall only operates in the morning and afternoon, and closes by late afternoon.
