Tommy – Wonderful Artisan Cafe in Montreal, Canada
One of our favourite memories of Montreal is having breakfast at Tommy, an artisan cafe famous for its delicious coffee and great pastries. We visited the branch along Notre Dame street, but there is another Tommy branch at Saint Paul street too. This is our review of the awesome cafe!
Tommy Cafe
Tommy is a popular cafe in located along Notre Dame street in the Old Montreal district. It is known for its good coffee and great pastries like croissants, bagels, cannolis, cronuts and more. The cafe is very popular with locals in Montreal.
Wonderful Ambience
Tommy is located in the British Empire Building, a historic building built in the Victorian architectural style. It was constructed in 1874 and was originally the office for the Exchange Bank of Canada.
We are not francophiles, but we really liked the French allure of the cafe with its colourful flowers, fresh green plants, hanging foliage and glass pastry display. The large glass windows allow for plenty of natural light to flood the cafe, giving it a bright and cheery vibe. The cafe has a great music playlist too.

Chocolate Cronut
We arrived at the cafe early for breakfast because we wanted to avoid the crowd. After looking through the pastries, we decided to order the Chocolatine ($3.50) and the Chocolate Cronut ($4). The Chocolatine is basically a large chocolate croissant. I took a large bite and immediately enjoyed the rich, buttery taste of the flaky croissant. Shortly after, I was treated to the tantalising bittersweet flavour of the dark chocolate within.
The cronut (a cross between croissant and doughnut, invented by Dominique Ansel Bakery) was delicious too. I loved the sweet taste of the cinnamon-sugar coated donut, elevated further by the sweet layer of luscious chocolate topping.
For drinks, I ordered a hot cup of hot Mocha ($4) while Raevian had the Cappuccino ($3.50). I loved the rich scent of the fragrant coffee, which was light-bodied with a really smooth texture. Raevian and I sat at a bar table by the window to slowly enjoy our coffee and pastries, while watching people walk along the quaint streets of Old Montreal. It was a wonderful way to spend our morning.
