The Drunken Pot 酒窩 (Causeway Bay) – One of the Best Hotpot Restaurants in Hong Kong!
Raevian and I are huge fans of Chinese hotpot, so we were very happy to discover The Drunken Pot (酒窩) at Causeway Bay during our recent trip to Hong Kong. Hotpot is a favourite delicacy of Hong Kongers, which is why hotpot joints are generally of very high standards here.
The Drunken Pot (酒窩)
The Drunken Pot (酒窩) is a popular hotpot restaurant in Hong Kong founded by successful entrepreneur Vivien Shek. The restaurant started at Tsim Sha Tsui in 2015 and opened its second branch at Causeway Bay in 2017. We visited the Causeway Bay outlet.
The restaurant is known for introducing a modern spin on Chinese hotpot, while still largely staying faithful to traditional elements. The menu offers interesting soup bases and ingredients such as the “Flame-stirred Lobster in Black Truffle and Cheese Pot Broth”, “Hand-made Seven-color Cuttlefish Balls”, “Handmade Happy Penguin Meatballs”, “Sake Bomb”, and many others.
There is also a large variety of beef items available, including the signature “Hanging Premium Sliced Angus Beef Short Ribs” and premium “Miyazaki A5 Wagyu”.
And in case you are wondering, the “Drunken” Pot is so named because of its signature soup base “bombs”, which are basically solidified alcohol balls dropped into the broths to enhance their taste.
The restaurant’s cheeky Chinese name 酒窩 is a direct translation of the English word “dimple”.
Awesome Atmosphere with Great Views
Even the washroom basin was really elegant and pretty
The Drunken Pot is located on the 27th floor of V-Point in Causeway Bay. Going into the building’s lift, we were whisked away from the rush of the shopping belt and transported to a fabulous getaway that boasts floor-to-ceiling windows with knock-out views of the Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong skyline.
The restaurant exudes a modern oriental charm with its contemporary Chinese lamps and pastel coloured furnishings, complete with eclectic pop paintings (by local artist Ben Pickering) on the walls.
On the whole, The Drunken Pot has a classy but convivial atmosphere which we really enjoyed.
We went to the restaurant on a Monday at 7pm and there were only a few diners. However, by the time we left at around 8.30pm, the restaurant was already fully packed.
Good Service
Service was quite good. The staff were very polite and we didn’t have any problems getting their attention at all. There was some slight confusion when we were using our Klook discount voucher, but this was quickly resolved by the restaurant’s manager.
The Notorious Pot (Soup Base)
Instead of ordering The Drunken Pot’s signature soup bases, we went with The Notorious Pot (HKD248), which consists of four awesome broths: Black Truffle with Assorted Mushrooms Soup, Pork Bone Broth Soup, Sichuan-style Numbingly Spicy Soup, and Picked Mustard with Pork Stomach and Pepper Soup.
We really enjoyed the Black Truffle with Assorted Mushrooms Soup, which had a luscious creamy texture along with the unmistakable aroma of truffle.
And of course, the Sichuan-style Numbingly Spicy Soup was the perfect spicy broth for cooking our hotpot ingredients.
The two other soup bases were definitely tasty too and provided balance and variety. However, they were not as flavourful as the truffle mushroom soup and Sichuan spicy soup.
Personal Condiments Tray
We were given a tray filled with 12 different condiments (deep-fried garlic, red chillies, peanut sauce, soy sauce, etc) so we could personalise our dipping sauce. I thought this was really cool because usually in other hotpot restaurants, customers have to make their own way to the condiments corner. The condiments cost HKD22 per guest.
Handmade Seven Color Cuttlefish Balls
The Handmade Seven Color Cuttlefish Balls (HKD88) was our favourite ingredient! They were perfectly fresh and chewy with a pleasant cuttlefish flavour. Each of the colours had a slightly different taste but I liked them all. I enjoyed eating the cuttlefish balls with the Sichuan spicy soup, while Raevian preferred the truffle mushroom soup.
Deep-Fried Homemade Bean Curd Rolls
The Deep-Fried Homemade Bean Curd Rolls (HKD58) was another of our favourites! This is our must-order item for Chinese hotpot.
The trick is to dip the bean curd rolls in the broth for just a few seconds to absorb the flavours, and then take them out quickly before they disintegrate.
I loved how the crispy and savoury bean curd skins absorbed the rich spicy flavours of the feisty Sichuan soup! As for Raevian, she enjoyed eating them with the fragrant truffle soup. I’m really glad we ordered this dish because it tasted amazing with the delicious broths.
Shrimp Wontons
We also had the Shrimp Wontons (HKD58), which were very fresh and savoury with smooth wonton skins.
Pork Neck
For protein, we had the Pork Neck (HKD48). This was a simple meat but it went perfectly with all four broths.
Sliced Lotus Roots / Enoki Mushrooms
We are not huge veggie fans but we do like some types of vegetables, such as the Sliced Lotus Roots (HKD28) and Enoki Mushrooms (HKD38). These are just normal ingredients but they tasted wonderful with the four scrumptious broths.
The Drunken Pot Signature Items
These are some of the restaurant’s signature items which we did not order: Sake Bomb (HKD25), Sliced Squid Ink Sausages (HKD58), Hanging Premium Sliced Angus Beef Short Ribs (HKD268), Handmade Happy Penguin Dumplings Meatballs (HKD88), and Assorted Fortune Bag Dumplings (HKD160).
You might also be interested in The Drunken Pot Signature Pot (HKD328), a soup base that comprises five different broths: Whole Papaya in Soup, Boston Lobster in Tomato Lobster Soup, Beef Brisket in Clear Broth, Sichuan-style Numbingly Spicy Soup and Teochew-Style Satay Soup.

Klook Discount Voucher
If you are planning on going to The Drunken Pot, make sure you get the Klook discount vouchers. We used the voucher and it helped us to save HKD100.
Conclusion
The Drunken Pot is definitely one of our favourite restaurants in Hong Kong! With its delicious broths, fresh and interesting ingredients, awesome harbour views, convivial atmosphere, and good service, it is no wonder that the restaurant is a hot favourite with locals. This is a must-visit if you’re ever in Hong Kong. The restaurant is very popular so you should make an advance reservation via Chope. Make sure you request for a window table too!
