Prudential Marina Bay Carnival 2018 / 2019 Guide – The Best Rides, Games and Food!

Prudential Marina Bay Carnival 2018/2019, the biggest carnival of its kind in Singapore, has sprung up again at the Bayfront Event Space! We visited the carnival on opening day and were happy to see that there are even more rides and games this year. The new rides were pretty intense! Below is our list of favourite rides, games, and food from the carnival. Also read: Taiwan’s Famous Shilin Night Market Is Coming to Singapore – Get Ready to Eat, Shop, Play and Have Fun!

– Rides –

1. Spring Break (NEW)

This new ride certainly did not disappoint! Spring Break swings its riders back and forth at dizzying speeds, while spinning clockwise and counter-wise at the same time. After the ride, I needed to rest for a good 10 minutes before continuing on to the next ride. While still not as intense as the Mach 5, I’m pretty sure this will be extremely popular with the adrenaline junkies.

Intensity Level: 8/10

Height Requirement: 1.4m – 1.95m

2. Jumper Jumper (NEW)

Another new ride of the carnival, Jumper Jumper is a medium-intensity ride that is suitable for people who prefer less intense rides. It spins around at a fast speed while jerking in a upwards and downwards motion; but on the whole it’s still a relatively friendly ride for the heart.

During the ride I kept feeling that my legs were going to hit the surrounding large spotlights. But there is actually no need to worry about that because the riders’ legs are actually quite far from the lights!

Height Requirement: 1.4m to 1.95m

3. Wave Swinger (NEW)

Think of this as the evil shorter cousin of Star Flyer. Wave Swinger is a swing ride that spins riders around at breakneck speed! While it does not go as high as the Star Flyer, it compensates by spinning so fast that you won’t be able to enjoy the view even if you were at a greater height. This new ride is definitely worth the hype!

Height Requirement: 1.4m to 1.95m

4. Mach 5

Mach 5 retains its crown as the most intense ride of Marina Bay Carnival. The ride takes you up 55 metres in the air, going up to a maximum speed of 96km/h in a gut-twisting 360 degrees rotation. This is one for the thrill seeker.

Intensity Level: 10/10

Height Requirement: 1.4m to 1.95m

5. Star Flyer

The Star Flyer is one our favourite rides and we were happy to see its return this year. This friendly (but very high) ride takes you up 35 metres in the air while spinning at a moderate speed, so that you can enjoy our beautiful city skyline at the same time. Not recommended if you are scared of heights though.

Intensity Level: 7/10

Height Requirement: 1.3m and above

6. Das Fun Schiff

Das Fun Schiff is german for “the fun ship”, and that is definitely a suitable name! It didn’t seem that intense when we were looking at it, but boy were we in for an adrenaline ride when it was our turn. The dramatic rocking motion of the large pirate ship had us screaming our lungs out throughout the ride. Make sure you check out this classic ride at the carnival!

Intensity Level: 8/10

Height Requirement: 1.3m and above

7. Jungle River

Before taking this ride you should know that you will get wet. Jungle River ferries riders along gentle slopes before bringing them down a steep slope to a big splash.

Intensity Level: 5.5/10

Height Requirement: 1.3m and above

8. Dodgems

Everyone loves bumper car rides! Dodgems is great fun, especially if you are playing with a group of family or friends.

Intensity Level: 5.5/10

Height Requirement: 1.3m and above

9. Euro Coaster

No ride to an amusement park would be complete with a roller coaster ride! While Euro Coaster is not exactly a thrilling ride, it is still a fun ride with brief moments of excitements.

Intensity Level: 6/10

Height Requirement: 1.3m and above

10. Shark Coaster

This is a fun ride for the children! The Shark Coaster speeds up at certain points along the tracks, but in general it is a friendly ride suitable for the whole family.

Intensity Level: 5/10

Height Requirement: 1.3m and above

– Games –

1. Hook a Bag

If you want a guaranteed chance of winning, head over to the Hook a Bag booth where you are guaranteed a prize! Simply use the pole to hook up any one of the plastic bags, all with prizes inside. And if you are lucky, you may even get a GOLD star which can be exchanged for a Giant prize! We only got a small soft toy though.

Prizes: A variety

2. Bowling

This was a popular game at the carnival, probably because of the super cute mini plushies. It is simple in theory: just use a ball to hit down the pins. Remember to aim for the side pockets instead of the pin at the front; this increases your chances of knocking down more pins!

Prizes: Adorable mini plushies (Toy Story, Winnie the Pooh, Monsters Inc, etc)

3. Can Blaster

Time to put your Angry Bird skills to use! Use an air gun to hit down at least 6 cans to win adorable Angry Bird soft toys. Note that the cans must drop off the shelf.

Prizes: Angry Bird plushies

4. Goblets

Toy Story fans should check out this booth, where you need to throw a ball into a coloured goblet in order to win a Toy Story soft toy.

Prizes: Toy Story plushies

5. Lobster Pot

Minion fans can check out this booth, where you must throw a ball into a tub and let it stay inside to win a prize. If you are skilful you will be able to win minion soft toys!

Prizes: Minion plushies

6. Milk Churns

This was one of the few booths where we actually managed to win plushies! Simply throw the balls into the “milk churns” to win.

Prizes: Monsters, Inc. plushies

7. Mini Hoop the Block

I can imagine that this booth is going to be earning a lot of money with its adorable prizes. I mean who doesn’t love Care Bears and Unicorn plushies? You need to throw a hoop completely over a block to win. Based on our observation, the chances of winning are rather slim because the hoop is quite small. But hey, you’re at a carnival! Just pay the credits and have fun!

Prizes: Care Bears and Unicorn plushies

8. Ring Toss

If you are feeling lucky, you can visit the Ring Toss game booth, where just one ring tossed over the top of a glass bottle entitles you to one Jumbo prize! However, you should know that the chances of winning are very slim and we did not manage to get a single ring over a bottle even though we bought one whole bucket of rings. We did see a few people succeeding though!

Prizes: Giant plushies (Disney, Monsters Inc.)

9. Roll a Ball

This may not be a super fun game, but we were enticed by the adorable Super Mario and Kungfu Panda plushies. You need to roll a ball up the table and land in the holes; each hole gives different number of points. The higher the points, the bigger the prize.

Prizes: Super Mario and Kungfu Panda plushies

10. Shuffle Board

This one is for the Marvel fans. Push the puck into the coloured zones to win Marvel plushies! However, this game is not as easy as it looks because the score will not count if the puck touches the score lines.

Prizes: Marvel plushies

11. Wiggle Wires

This is another popular booth at the carnival! You need to loop a metal ring through a moving metal wire without touch it. If you succeed, you immediately win one big Star Wars plushie! The game is definitely not easy, but it is very fun and we did see a few people winning!

Prizes: Star Wars plushies

– Food –

These are some of our favourite food at the carnival! This year, all the food stalls are located at a sheltered corner, with many seats available. Check out this article for a complete list of all the FOOD at the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival 2018.

1. Meatballs in a Bucket by Sofnade

Sofnade is a Halal certified food company that specialises in pop-up food stations for events. They are famous for their popular Meatballs In A Bucket and Artisan Bubble Teas & Beverages.

We ordered the Classic Chicken Meatballs ($12) and it was really delicious! The sumptuous mix of cheese, meatballs, mashed potatoes and curly fries was perfect for satisfying our hungry tummies.

2. Loco Loco

Loco Loco is a popular churros specialty stall that serves up churros in interesting flavours like Ondeh Ondeh, Oreo, Chilli Crab, Salted Egg, and more. They also offer sides like Fish and Chips, Fries, Takoyaki, Thai Milk Tea, and Thai Milk Tea Soft Serve.

3. Singaindo

Singaindo is an Indonesian food stall that offers delicious Indomie dishes, Roti Bakar, a toast with several toppings available such as Nutella or Condensed Milk, and Teh Botol, the iconic Indonesian soft drink.

Conclusion

This year, the carnival will be introducing Express Passes from $30 so that you can skip the queue at selected rides!

And interestingly, there will be monthly themed dress contests and if your attires are impressive enough, you can even get to jump the queues and win bonus credits.

There will be roving acts as well. We spotted a clown juggling and entertaining children at the carnival.

Finally, it was nice to see that that many of the rides are cheaper by $1 this year.

We enjoyed ourselves very much at Prudential Marina Bay Carnival 2018 / 2019 and I highly recommend that you check it out too! There are plenty of fun activities here which are suitable for people of all ages.
