Ken’s Cafe Releases Dazzling Gold Leaf Chocolate Cake for CNY – Now You Can Really Give Gold Bars as Gifts

Huat ah! Watanabe Coffee has released a Ken’s Cafe Tokyo Gold Leaf Chocolate Cake in celebration of Singapore’s Chinese New Year. These glittering “gold bars” are perfect for gift-giving at this auspicious time of year.

Ken’s Cafe Tokyo

Ken’s Cafe Tokyo is a famous cake shop in Tokyo that sells just one item: the delicious chocolate cake “Gâteau au Chocolat”.

The shop is extremely popular in Japan and has received many raving reviews on Tabelog, a trustworthy Japanese restaurant review site.

Last month, on 01 Dec 2018, Watanabe Coffee started selling this famous chocolate cake in Singapore!

The cake is made with high-quality Valrhona dark chocolate and is completely flourless and gluten-free.

Having tasted the original chocolate cake from Ken’s Cafe Tokyo in Japan, we were really impressed by how similar the Singapore version tasted. This is despite the slight differences in ingredients used, as some of the original ingredients could not be acquired in Singapore.

Gold Leaf Chocolate Cake

To usher in Chinese New Year in Singapore, Watanabe Coffee’s Chef Toshihiro Ito has created the Ken’s Cafe Tokyo Gold Leaf Chocolate Cake.

Looking at the gold chocolate cake, I was fascinated by how gorgeous it looked! The dazzling gold leaf shimmered beautifully under the light, captivating me with its gold allure.

It was actually really difficult to create this gold version of the chocolate cake. Chef Ito had to try lots of times before he finally perfected the presentation of the cake.

The high purity gold leaf is imported from Kanazawa in Japan, a city famous for its gold leaf crafts. In fact, the region produces 99% of the gold leaf in Japan.

How to Buy

Watanabe Coffee (located at Shaw House) will start selling these Gold Leaf Chocolate Cakes from 21 January 2019.

Because they are freshly baked, you would need to call at least two days in advance to reserve the cake. The number is +65 6235 0608. There is no limit to how many you can order. Each gold leaf cake costs SGD88.

In case you don’t like to eat chocolate cakes, Watanabe Coffee will also be selling gift-sized vials filled with glittering gold leaf flakes.

There is also a bigger bottle that is sold together with the Ken’s Cafe Chocolate Cake at $68.

These souvenirs are great for CNY gift-giving as good luck charms.
