Our Honest Review of McDonald’s Chocolate Pie (2019) – Does It Live Up to The Hype?

In March 2018, McDonald’s Singapore launched its limited edition chocolate pie. It was so popular that it was sold out within two weeks. And as if to troll us, McDonald’s then announced that the dessert would not be coming back anytime soon.

For those of you who didn’t believe that the chocolate pie would actually sell out so quickly, and was sorely disappointed on missing out, I have good news for you.

On 20 Feb, McDonald’s Singapore released a Facebook video announcing that it would be bringing back this fad item on 22 Feb.

Our Verdict: Ok lah Not Bad

And since I’m a sucker for the latest food fads, I went down to McDonald’s on the very day of its release to buy this trending chocolate pie.

In fact, I wasn’t even craving for any other Mac items so I simply ordered one chocolate pie.

While waiting for my order, I could see the staff serving plenty of chocolate pies, and I also saw many people sitting around in the restaurant eating chocolate pies.

Well, I’m definitely not the only sucker.

So did it live up to its hype? After the recent Salted Egg Yolk Fries fiasco, I was hoping not to be disappointed again.

The chocolate pie was freshly baked and quite warm. As I opened the wrapper, a strong savoury scent emanated from the pie.

The pie crust was nice and crunchy as usual. The chocolate filling had a nice smooth texture, along with a rich chocolate fragrance and a slight tinge of bitterness.

While it definitely wasn’t as flowy and luscious as depicted in the promotional photos, it did ooze out when I bit further into the pie, flowing onto my fingers. Therefore, you might want to be careful not to get it on your clothes.

All in all, this was a pretty satisfying dessert for $1.50. Last year it was $1.40, but hey, I’m not fussing over this small increase (#baller).

To avoid disappointment, make your way down to the nearest McDonald’s outlet and get your hands on one of this before they sell out again.

The chocolate pie is now available daily from 11am onwards at all McDonald’s outlets.
