Pizza e Mozzarella (Rome) – Delicious and Affordable Pizzas, This is One Pizzeria You MUST Visit!

The wife and I had the perfect start to our Rome adventure at Pizza E Mozzarella, a homely pizzeria located near the Pantheon. The pizza was delicious, service was great, and the price was super reasonable!

Pizza E Mozzarella

Pizza E Mozzarella is a tiny restaurant near the Pantheon (Rome) that sells a variety of freshly baked pizzas.

The pizzas are priced by weight, ranging from Euro 1.10 to Euro 1.67 per 100g. I was surprised by how affordable the pizzas were.

The pizzeria is helmed by a young and friendly chef who was really kind and patient.

Pizza Menu

All the pizza names are in Italian, so in the end I just pointed out the pizzas I wanted. I believe I ordered the Salami Pizza and Pork Sausage Pizza.

A Hidden Gem with Bustling Local Vibe!

Pizza E Mozzarella is quite literally a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. When I was looking for it, I walked past it without even realising it was there. This is because the pizzeria signage is pretty much non-existent.

However, with the help of Google Maps, I managed to find the restaurant without much difficulty.

Raevian and I walked into the joint and found that it was a really cozy space with just a few tables and stool. The bulk of the space is occupied by a glass counter displaying a variety of tantalising pizzas.

When we visited Pizza E Mozzarella it was raining quite heavily, but there were still many customers in the shop, consisting mostly of locals and even an Italian policeman.

While waiting for their pizzas, they engaged in friendly banter with each other and the chef.

I’m not sure why but this scene reminded me of the The Godfather movie, and I wondered if the cop was going to give the chef a shake-down suddenly.

I digress. It was a wonderful atmosphere and I really enjoyed eating my pizza here while watching the local Italians interact. Can’t get any more legit than this!

Friendly and Kind Pizza Chef

After leaving my bag on one of the stools, I walked to the counter. I stood there feeling a little lost about how to order since the prices were not indicated (I later realised there was actually a price list on the left side of the counter).

I asked the chef for the price and he replied with a strong Italian accent while smiling:

“You just choose pizza and tell me small, medium, or big. Then I cut for you and weigh it and give you price. If you’re happy, you take it. If you’re not happy, I cut another slice for you,”

So I told the friendly chef that I wanted “small”, and pointed out the pizzas I wanted. He sliced up the pizzas for me quickly.

Super Delicious Pizzas

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure of what I ordered, since the pizzas were not labelled. But I believe it was a Salami Pizza (quite sure about this one), and a Pork Sausage Pizza (this I am not so sure).

I ordered two small slices of each pizza, and the total cost was just 4 Euro. I actually did a double take after the chef told me the price, because I didn’t realise it would be so affordable.

(Later on, I found out that pizzas are generally quite cheap in Italy.)

I took my first bite of the pizza, and it was the best I had ever tasted! This beat all the other pizzas I had eaten in Singapore and other parts of the world.

And even after trying pizzas from other restaurants in Italy, I still feel that Pizza e Mozzarella serves up the best pizzas.

The pizza crust was firm but not too hard, with just the right amount of bite. The mozzarella and pork were very fresh and delicious.

But my favourite was definitely the salami, which had a distinct smoky and savoury flavour, with a slight tinge of sourness.

This was one satisfying pizza meal.

Conclusion

Happy to have discovered an awesome pizza joint

I really enjoyed eating the pizzas at Pizza E Mozzarella! The chef was very kind and friendly, which made it a really nice experience for Raevian and me, since this was the very first restaurant we visited in Italy.

According to some reviews, this pizza joint has been around for 50 years, which is not hard to believe considering the high quality of their pizzas.

I believe the restaurant gets really busy during peak hours, so it is best to order takeaway if you plan to check it out. We visited at around 8pm and it was raining heavily, which was probably why we could still get seats in the restaurant. You can take your pizza to eat at the nearby Piazza della Rotonda, home to the iconic Pantheon.

Since this joint is located just off the touristy area, it is the perfect stop for a quick break before continuing your exploration of Rome.
