Tiger Sugar Opens at Jurong Point – Now Westerners Can Enjoy Brown Sugar Boba Milk Every Day

Good news for Westerners! Tiger Sugar has opened a new outlet at Jurong Point. This is its fourth branch in Singapore. This article was last updated on 23 March 2020.

Tiger Sugar (Jurong Point)

Tiger Sugar (老虎堂 ) is a popular Taiwanese bubble tea chain. It is known for its signature “Brown Sugar” series drinks.

The brown sugar syrup is made using four types of Taiwanese brown sugar.

And instead of creamer, the drinks are made with Meiji fresh full cream milk.

When the milk and syrup are mixed together, the appearance of the drink is akin to a tiger’s stripes, hence the name.

As for the pearls, Tiger Sugar offers two types: the bigger tapioca pearls (“boba”) and smaller brown sugar pearls (“pearl”).

The bubble tea chain came to Singapore in November 2018, opening its first two branches at Chinatown Point basement and Capitol Singapore. Its third branch is located at Orchard Paragon.

On 30th March 2019, Tiger Sugar opened its fourth branch on the third floor of Jurong Point, opposite Golden Village Cinemas.

Tiger Sugar Menu

Two types of pearls

There are two main types of brown sugar drinks: “Brown Sugar Boba series”, which contains the bigger boba tapioca pearls, and the “Brown Sugar Pearl series”, which contains the smaller brown sugar pearls.

If you want a mix of both types of pearls, get the Brown Sugar Boba + Pearl with Cream mousse ($5.30), which was what I did. This is also the shop’s signature drink.

According to the menu, the bestseller is the Brown Sugar Boba Milk with Cream mousse ($5.30). This contains only boba pearls.

Brown Sugar Boba + Pearl with Cream Mousse

I ordered the Brown Sugar Boba + Pearl with Cream mousse ($5.30), because I wanted to try both types of pearls.

Before drinking, I took a few pictures of the drink quickly because the “tiger stripes” will disappear once the brown sugar syrup settles.

My first impression of the drink was that it was extremely rich and creamy, with a really smooth and luscious texture. This was probably due to the fresh milk and cream mousse used.

The brown sugar syrup gave the drink a lovely sweet flavour, which I really liked. This drink will be extremely satisfying for anyone who has a sweet tooth.

Compared to other bubble tea pearls, Tiger Sugar’s boba pearls were significantly softer. I actually preferred these pearls because I liked their squishy feel in my mouth.

As for the brown sugar pearls, I really enjoyed chewing on them too because they were very soft with a pleasant sweet taste.

Tiger Sugar Boba Milk Ice Cream Bar

I recently tried the Tiger Sugar Boba Milk Ice Cream Bar ($3.90 for one, $15 for a box of four), which launched in Singapore on 07 Feb 2020.

I enjoyed the sweet milky flavour and chunks of chewy boba in every bite! However, note that it’s not as sweet as the original Brown Sugar Boba Milk, so you might not enjoy it as much if you have a sweet tooth.

Conclusion

Now that Tiger Sugar has opened in Jurong Point, Westerners will be able to get their Brown Sugar Boba Milk fix much more easily.

It is easy to understand why this drink is so popular with Singaporeans. It has a sweet and luscious flavour that anyone with a sweet tooth will love.

However, if you do not like sweet stuff, you might find this drink too saccharine.
