Khao Kha Moo Trok Sung (Bangkok) – Hidden Gem Serving Delicious Pig Trotter Rice Near Platinum Mall
During my holiday in Bangkok, I was really looking forward to checking out Khao Kha Moo Trok Sung, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant known for its delicious pig trotter rice.
Khao Kha Moo Trok Sung
Khao Kha Moo Trok Sung is a small restaurant in Bangkok that sells delicious Khao Kha Moo, which is Thai for pig trotter rice. This simple dish consists of braised pork leg served over rice.
It is located along an obscure street near Platinum mall and we managed to find it without much difficulty using Google Maps.
This hole-in-the-wall joint consists of a modest indoor space and a small outdoor dining area. The wife and I went on a weekday at 11am and there weren’t many customers around.
The restaurant was opened by Mr Tang over 20 years ago. He is in his 60s today but looks younger than his actual age. According to him, he maintains his youthful demeanour by eating one pig trotter a day. Sounds more like a recipe for high cholesterol though.
According to Mr Tang, the aromatic braising sauce is stewed for at least three hours daily using over ten ingredients.
The staff were all quite friendly, and our food arrived promptly after ordering.
Menu + Popular Dishes
Most people visit Khao Kha Moo Trok Sung to eat the pig trotter rice (THB 70). If you wish, you can pair it with the tasty bitter gourd soup for THB 100.
You can also order the pig trotter (THB 150), which is a plate of tantalising braised pork legs. The menu also offers braised pork intestines.
Pig Trotter Rice
The pig trotter rice (THB 70) consists of braised pork leg strips served over rice, and is paired with a hard boiled egg and pickled greens.
The pork trotter was juicy, tender and flavourful, with a good fat to meat ratio. The fatty pork skin was so sinful but so good!
And I really enjoyed eating the white rice with the juicy pork meat and savoury gravy that wasn’t too greasy.
Another highlight was the chili sauce, which had a sweet and savoury taste perfect for eating with the pork meat.
