Karmakamet Diner (Bangkok) – Enchanting Restaurant With Lovely Attention to Detail, Delicious Western Dishes
Karmakamet Diner is one of the most beautiful and stunning restaurants I’ve visited in Bangkok. It was almost like going into a secret sanctuary cut off from the rest of the world.
Karmakamet Diner
Karmakamet Diner is a gorgeous garden-themed restaurant in Bangkok that serves a variety of Western-style dishes.
It is run by Karmakamet, a well-known Thai company that sells a wide range of aromatic products.
Beautiful Restaurant With Enchanting Vibe
Karmakamet Diner is a fantastic space with lovely attention to detail and interior design. It is styled in a rustic Boho chic vibe boasting wood grain furnishings, an array of horticulture, hanging potpourri, rough hewn brick walls, and large bottles of essential oils sitting on metal racks.
The restaurant also reminded me of a apothecary with its vintage medicine cupboard of small drawers displaying Karmakamet products.
Our table was lined with specially designed “The Karmakamet Times” newspapers, and the coasters were made from folded envelopes with vintage stamps.
It is possible to dine alfresco in the outdoor garden, but in Bangkok’s scorching weather that would be ill-advised.
On the whole, Karmakamet Diner exudes an enchanting and alluring vibe which I really liked.
Service wise, the staff were generally quite polite, but the restaurant needs to work on its efficiency because our food took quite long to arrive after ordering.
Karmakamet Aromatic
The retail shop Karmakamet Aromatic is located next to the restaurant. It sells essential oils, aroma candles, perfume sprays, etc.
It has an equally whimsical design, with antique lamps, vintage leather furniture, and many other retro accents.
Menu (Click to enlarge)
The Karmakamet Diner menu offers a selection of Western main courses, pastas, salads, pastries, and desserts.
Crab Pasta
The tantalising Crab Pasta (420 baht) is spaghetti topped with chunks of crab meat, ikura (salmon roe), cheese, and dried chilli flakes.
The spaghetti had just the right amount of bite and was moderately spicy. It went well with the crab meat which was fresh and savoury. The ikura was a nice touch and added a pleasant saltiness to the dish.
The only downside was that we had to wait almost 15 minutes for it to arrive.
Strawberry In The Clouds
The most popular item on the menu is probably the Strawberry In The Clouds (THB 390), which consists of a cup of deconstructed strawberry shortcake covered with a huge ball of colourful cotton candy.
I admit that part of the reason why I ordered this item was because it is a super Instagram-worthy dessert.
Our cotton candy started to melt and drip shortly after it was served. Therefore, make sure you take pictures of it quickly before it starts slowly disintegrating and causing a mess on the table.
Initially I wasn’t sure of how to eat the cotton candy, and after a while I decided to just pull off chunks of it and fold them into smaller pieces.
After eating some of the sweet and fluffy cotton candy, we lifted it up to reveal the cup of strawberry shortcake within.
This was an enjoyable dessert. The butter biscuits, strawberry ice cream, walnut crumble and amaretto cream turned into a pleasant mush in my mouth as I chewed.
Basilica Smash
We also ordered the Basilica Smash (THB 240), an icy cold mint beverage perfect for drinking in Thailand’s hot weather.
Directions to Karmakamet Diner
The wife and I had some difficulties locating the restaurant at first, but Google Maps saved the day. It is actually just a short five-minute walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station.
After exiting from the station, we walked towards the entrance of Emporium shopping mall.
After that, we passed by Tiffany & Co.
A short while later, we saw the Emporium Suites entrance.
We continued walking and saw a Karmakamet Diner sign shortly. We turned left here and walked down a small road towards the restaurant.
Conclusion
If you are a cafe lover, Karmakamet Diner is a must-visit. It is the perfect sanctuary for escaping the hustle and bustle of Bangkok city. The prices are not really cheap by Bangkok’s standards, but they are still reasonable. My only qualm was that the food took quite long to arrive – hopefully the restaurant will look into improving its efficiency.
