Roast (Bangkok) – Fantastic Cafe Serving Delicious Brunch And Comfort Food at The COMMONS

During our recent Bangkok trip, the wife and I finally got to check out Roast, a super popular cafe that has plenty of raves online. We had been wanting to visit this cafe for quite some time and were happy that we finally got to do so this time.

Roast

The Commons

Roast is a beautiful cafe in Bangkok that serves a variety of Western-style dishes, brunch items, and artisan coffee.

It is located at “The Commons”, an open-air shopping complex in the hip district of Thong Lor. To get here, you need to take a Grab ride or walk for about 20 minutes from Thong Lo BTS station. I recommend taking Grab instead of walking under the hot sun.

There is another Roast branch at modern shopping mall EmQuartier, which is more convenient to visit since it’s just beside Phrom Phong BTS station.

Great Ambience and Service

Satisfied

As I got off my Grab car ride and crossed the road towards The Commons, I could see why this place has become so popular in recent years.

This four-level hipster complex has a breezy open-air design that is charming, lofty and welcoming at the same time.

The wife and I were a little dismayed to find out that Roast is located on the top floor, and proceeded to make the climb up to the cafe.

We arrived at 10.15am on a Monday and there was no queue at all. However, I have read that the queue can get really long on weekends, especially during peak hours.

The bright and spacious cafe is styled in a Scandinavian-Industrial vibe boasting wood grain furnishings, cement flooring, and pretty pendant lamps.

The spacious interior and ample space between tables make it a friendly dining location for families and large groups alike.

There is outdoor seating as well.

Service was very good. All the staff were friendly and attentive, and our food arrived very fast after ordering.

We were also served with complimentary bread before the meal, which was a nice touch.

Roast Menu

The menu offers a good variety of brunch items, starters, pasta, seafood, meats, desserts, coffee, tea, and juices. The cafe does not serve alcohol.

Some popular items include the Fresh Brew Coffee (THB120), Iced Espresso Latte (THB120), Truffle Alfredo (THB280), Chocolate Souffle (THB200) and Strawberry Waffle (THB260). You can see the full menu here.

Truffle Alfredo

The Truffle Alfredo (THB280) is a tantalising pasta dish that consists of homemade tagliatelle, long bacon slices, chunks of mushrooms and truffles of course.

The highlight of this dish was the rich and fragrant aroma of truffle! I also loved the silky smooth texture of the tagliatelle, which went perfectly with the creamy sauce.

Together with the crispy bacons and chewy mushrooms, this was one super satisfying pasta dish that was packed with flavours and executed perfectly.

I loved it!

Strawberry Waffle

The Strawberry Waffle (THB260) is a gorgeous waffle dessert that is served with whipped cream, strawberries, maple syrup, vanilla ice cream, and dusted off with icing sugar.

Looking at this beautiful Instagrammable dish, I wondered if it would taste as good as it looked.

Luckily, I was not disappointed. The waffle was light and fluffy, and tasted great with the fresh strawberries and delicately sweet whipped cream.

I poured some of the luscious maple syrup on the waffle and loved how it turned into a pleasant mush in my mouth as I chewed.

And of course, eating the dessert with the scoop of sweet vanilla ice cream made it an even more amazing treat.

On the whole, this was a really delicious and satisfying dessert, though I felt there was slightly too much whipped cream. This was not a big problem since I just moved some of it to the side.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

I found the Strawberry Banana Smoothie (THB180) to be a delicious and healthy drink. It is quite expensive, but you can rest assured it is made from real fruits and not fake fruit syrups.

Pink Lemonade

The Pink Lemonade (THB120) was a surprisingly light and refreshing drink that was not too sweet. It was perfect for washing down all the food I had eaten earlier.

Conclusion

With its delicious comfort food and wonderful ambience, Roast is the perfect place for a casual date with your loved one, the place for a gathering with friends, the place for a meal with family – the place to go when you want to enjoy awesome cafe food with your favourite people. The prices are significantly more expensive than other Bangkok eateries, but in my opinion it is worth the premium.
