Genting Highlands Premium Outlets – Is it Worth Visiting This Outlet Mall?

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets opened on 15 June 2017 but I only got around to checking it out during my recent Genting trip. On top of the usual Genting activities, tourists can now also indulge in some bargain shopping at this relatively new outlet mall. Before visiting, make sure you claim this free coupon that entitles you to savings at many outlets, and a complimentary drink or meal voucher.

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets is an open-air outlet mall located near Awana cable car station. It is home to over 150 designer and brand outlets offering discounts of up to 70%.

I saw many famous brands like Nike, Furla, Michael Kors, Adidas, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, just to name a few.

However, note that the outlet mall does not have luxury brands like Prada, Gucci, Louis Vutton, Prada, Ferragamo, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, etc.

Good Weather and Scenic Views

Situated at the base of the mountain in Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands Premium Outlets offers an outdoor shopping experience with pleasant views of the surrounding lush mountains.

The wife and I visited at around 5pm and the weather was quite cooling. Therefore, we did not really perspire much despite walking quite a bit around the mall.

Accessible Luxury Brands

The most popular shops at the mall were accessible luxury brands like Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Coach, etc. All these stores had long queues outside and we had to wait for around 15 to 30 minutes to get in. Below are some of the stores I saw, along with their stated discounts on the posters.

Michael Kors – This is one of the most popular brands in the mall and there was constantly a long queue outside whenever we passed by. You can enjoy discounts of between 30% to 60%.

Coach – This is another popular store, enjoy discounts of up to 50% here.

Kate Spade – Discounts of 30% to 70%

Furla – Discounts of up to 30%

Tommy Hilfiger – Discounts of up to 30%

Tumi – Discounts of up to 30%

Calvin Klein – Discounts of up to 60%

Mid-Market Brands

The mid-market brands like Nike, Pedro, Adidas, G2000 and Charles & Keith were very popular too. The Nike store was especially busy and we had to queue for about 20 minutes to go in.

Nike – If you are looking for Nike products, this is the place to go. I saw a huge range of sportswear and sports shoes on discounts in this large store.

Victoria’s Secret – You can find Victoria’s Secret undies selling at RM29 each in this store.

LeSport Sac – If you like this brand, you will be happy to know that you can enjoy discounts of up to 50%.

Universal Traveller – You can enjoy discounts of up to 70% on the products here. I saw some basic windbreakers being sold for RM99 only.

Adidas – Other than Nike, this is another popular sports store. We didn’t manage to check it out because we didn’t have time to queue.

Cotton On – I didn’t manage to go in but it seems the shop was very crowded.

Under Armour – This was another popular sports store.

Other Stores

Toy World – This is a good place to get toys and plushies at reasonable prices. Most of the toys I saw cost around RM30 or less.

Typo – I was surprised to see a Typo branch at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets. This hip gift and stationery shop is very popular with children and young teenagers. Many of the items were cheaper than Singapore.

Kids Friendly Amenities – There is a playground here so your kids can keep themselves entertained while you go shopping. I also saw a miniature train ride for children.

Sasa – There is a Sasa outlet in the outlet mall but we didn’t manage to check it out.

What to Eat at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

There are several restaurants here such as Wendy’s, Burger King, BOOST, Absolute Thai, The Chicken Rice Shop, etc. There is also a food court that sells Malay food. I saw a Marrybrown branch in the food court; this is my favourite Malaysian fast food outlet.

Useful Tips

1. Remember to download this free coupon that lets you enjoy savings at many outlets in the mall, and also get a drink or meal voucher.

2. If possible, try to visit on a weekday or early in the morning to avoid queueing too long for the popular brands.

3. If you can’t make it to the mall in the morning, visit during early evening when the weather is cooler and the sky is still not dark yet. However, the mall will be quite crowded at this timing.

4. Wear comfy and well-padded shoes because you will be walking quite a bit around this outdoor mall. Slippers are definitely not a good idea.

5. If you plan on shopping till late, remember to bring a jacket because the weather can get chilly at night.

6. Check out the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets Facebook page before visiting to see if there are any good promotions.

Conclusion

Personally, I feel that Genting Highlands Premium Outlets is a good place to shop for accessible luxury and mid-market brand products. It is also family-friendly with many empty public spaces, a decent playground, a large toy shop, and spacious restaurants.

On the downside, even though the overall prices are cheaper than Singapore, the discounts are actually not as good as other outlet malls we’ve visited, such as the famous Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in New York.

In addition, you will be disappointed if you are looking for upscale, luxury boutiques. For high-end outlet shopping, you will have to check out places like The Mall in Florence or Woodbury Commons in New York.
