Ji Long Tang (吉龍糖) – NEW Taiwan Bubble Tea Shop Opens at KSL City Mall in Johor Bahru

While walking around KSL City Mall in Johor Bahru, I spotted Ji Long Tang (吉龍糖), a bubble tea shop which I had not heard of before. Since the wife and I are both fans of bubble tea, and the shop looked pretty legit, we decided to check it out. Update 13 February 2020: Ji Long Tang has opened two branches in Singapore! They are located at Waterway Point Mall in Punggol, and Star Vista Mall in Buona Vista.

Ji Long Tang (吉龍糖)

Ji Long Tang (吉龍糖) is a new Taiwanese bubble tea chain that is very popular in Taiwan. It is also known as “JLD Dragon”.

It is known for using premium Okinawa brown sugar, which is cooked using a slow frying process in the shop. The boba pearls are manually cooked in the shop too.

Ji Long Tang has many branches across Taiwan, and has also opened overseas outlets in Hong Kong, Japan, and Malaysia.

We visited the outlet at KSL City Mall in Johor Bahru, which has a cozy seating area for you to chill out with friends over bubble tea.

There are also branches in Sutera Mall, Mount Austin, Bukit Tinggi, Kinta City (Ipoh), etc.

The menu offers three drinks series: Brown Sugar Boba, Brown Sugar Tea, and JLD Dragon Specialty.

The five recommended drinks are Brown Sugar Boba Milk with Cheese (RM12.90), Brown Sugar Boba Thick Milk (RM12.90), Brown Sugar Boba Milk Taro (RM12.90), Brown Sugar Boba Milk Matcha (RM12.90), and Passion Fruit Lemon Black Tea (RM12.90).

Note that the Brown Sugar Boba Series does not allow you to adjust the ice level. This is because the purpose of the ice is to preserve the fresh milk, and is therefore prefixed based on a “golden ratio”. Hence, it is recommended that you consume the drink asap after buying to experience the best taste.

Brown Sugar Boba Thick Milk

I ordered the Brown Sugar Boba Thick Milk (RM12.90), which is one of the shop’s best-selling drinks. It is made using fresh milk, boba pearls, and brown sugar syrup.

I was not disappointed!

The drink was very rich, creamy, and smooth. The brown sugar syrup gave it a lovely sweet flavour. The boba pearls were chewy and sweet, complementing the drink perfectly.

This was definitely a very satisfying brown sugar milk drink, and I liked that it was not overly sweet.

Conclusion

JLD Dragon (吉龍糖) currently already has over a dozen outlets in Malaysia, so I won’t be surprised to see it opening in Singapore soon. And if it does, make sure you check it out because the brown sugar milk is really quite delicious.
