Burger & Lobster (Mayfair, London) – Visiting The Original Branch Of This Famous Restaurant Chain!

Burger & Lobster is a successful restaurant chain with branches all over the world, and chances are you’ve probably tried it already at an outlet in your city. I’ve tried it in Malaysia and New York before, and it recently launched in Singapore as well. However, I thought it would be cool to check out the very first Burger & Lobster branch in the world during my London holiday.

Burger & Lobster

Burger & Lobster (B&L) is a famous casual dining restaurant that serves three main items: Burgers, Lobsters, and Lobster Rolls.

The owners, four former schoolmates, had a simple idea: to open a restaurant in London that serves delicious burgers and lobsters. And so they opened the first B&L branch on Clarges Street, Mayfair in 2011!

Since then, it has expanded to 9 branches across London. There are also overseas branches in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, Thailand, Kuwait, and more.

The First B&L Branch (Mayfair, London)

As mentioned, I visited the original branch in Mayfair, which is designed like a stylish casual diner. I liked the vibe of this spacious restaurant. Its convivial atmosphere makes it a nice place to hang out over a good meal with family and friends.

We visited at 7.15pm on a weekday and the restaurant was really busy. Therefore, it was quite hard to get the attention of the staff sometimes, and they were not really very friendly. Personally, I feel that the service at the New York branch was significantly better.

The three main items on the menu are Lobsters, Burgers, and the Lobster Roll.

The Lobsters are wild Canadian lobsters delivered fresh daily, and are served grilled or steamed with a choice of butter or B&L’s lemon and garlic butter. They come in three sizes: 1.25lb (£24), 1.75lb (£32), and 2lb (£37).

The Original Lobster Roll (£20) comes with chilled lobster meat sandwiched in toasted brioche, and is served with Japanese Mayo and lemon.

If you can’t make up your mind between getting a lobster or burger, go for the B&L Combo (£33), which consists of a 1.25lb lobster and 5oz burger.

Some of the tasty side dishes include Grilled King Prawns (10.50), Lobster Claw (8), Lobster & Oyster Platter (14.5), Truffle Chips (6), etc. The drinks menu offer a variety of beers, wines, cocktails, liquors, and soft drinks.

Original Lobster Roll

I ordered the Original Lobster Roll (£20) – an easy decision for me. This tantalising roll consisted of juicy lobster meat tossed in Japanese mayo with chives, wrapped in a toasted bun. It came with salad and chips too.

The sweet lobster meat and luscious mayo tasted amazing, going perfectly with the warm buttered brioche bun. Quite an amazing combination of flavours there, you can imagine.

The salad and chips were delicious too, complementing the roll nicely.

1.25lb Lobster

The wife indulged in the 1.25lb Lobster (£24), which came with salad and chips as well. This was another satisfying dish!

The white lobster meat was moist, sweet and tender, with a refreshing taste that felt so good in my mouth. And of course, it would be a sin not to eat it with B&L’s signature lemon and garlic butter sauce, which brought the lobster to another level with its irresistible tangy-savoury flavour.

Conclusion

I had a great meal at Burger & Lobster in Mayfair, London. Both the lobster and lobster roll were excellent. It’s no wonder that they remain one of the most popular restaurants in London. In addition, it was pretty cool to visit the very first B&L outlet; it felt a little like I was revisiting the history of this world famous restaurant chain. If you do not mind nonchalant service and just want to enjoy delicious food, this branch will not disappoint you. I recommend making reservations because the restaurant gets really busy during peak hours.
