Ng Kee Teochew Fish Ball Kuay Teow Mee – Hidden Gem Noodles Stall Found At Taman Jurong Food Centre

I had to wait almost 20 minutes for my noodles from Ng Kee Teochew Fish Ball Kuay Teow Mee, but it was definitely worth the wait. Their Teochew fishball noodles are really delicious and it’s not hard to see why this stall is so popular. This article was last updated on 21 August 2020.

Ng Kee Teochew Fish Ball Kuay Teow Mee

Ng Kee Teochew Fish Ball Kuay Teow Mee (黄记潮州鱼圆粿条面) is an old school fishball noodles stall located on the third floor of Taman Jurong Food Centre.

It is manned by a team of three brothers. From what I observed, one of them prepared the ingredients, another cooked the noodles, while the remaining brother took orders at the front.

This stall is very popular so be prepared to wait. The uncle will give you a heads-up about the long waiting time too.

I had to wait almost 20 minutes for my noodles when I went down on a weekday at around 11.30am. I’ve heard that they are even busier in the mornings.

Menu

The stall sells just one standard fishball noodle dish, priced at $3, $4 and $5. You can order either the dry or soup version.

The standard noodle types are available: mee kia (thin egg noodles), mee pok (thick egg noodles), kuay teow (flat rice noodles), yellow noodles, and thin vermicelli.

Fishball Noodles (Dry)

I ordered the $5 dry version, which came with a generous amount of ingredients!

There were plenty of handmade fishballs, fish dumplings, and sliced fishcakes. The noodles is Teochew style so it also came with sliced pork, pork liver, pork lard, and prawns.

The soup was served separately, and had bits of minced meat and spring onions floating inside.

The highlight for me was the noodles, which were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of bite. They were nicely coated with the sauce, giving every strand a silky texture. Overall the noodles were well-flavoured without being too salty.

The handmade fishballs had a bouncy texture and I enjoyed the great elasticity in every bite! The handmade fish dumplings and sliced fishcakes were very tasty and springy too.

The crispy pork lard may be sinful, but it added a rich oily fragrance and an extra dimension to the noodles (sorry cholesterol level).

While not fantastic, the pork liver, sliced pork and prawns tasted decent and complemented the noodles well.

Another pleasant surprise was the clear soup, which had a natural umami sweetness that was very addictive.

Incidentally, Ng Kee’s noodles reminds me of Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodles, but the latter has significantly stronger flavours while Ng Kee offers more of a homely and nostalgic taste.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed my tasty Teochew fishball noodles from Ng Kee Teochew Fish Ball Kuay Teow Mee! I was especially impressed by the excellent noodles and high-quality ingredients. It would have been even better if the sliced pork and pork liver had been more tender.

The stall is closed on weekends and Mondays, but according to the stall uncle they may be closed on other days too. So do not be surprised if you find the stall closed during your visit.

Make sure you articulate your order clearly because I noticed that the uncle was a little absent-minded. It would be good to confirm your order (noodles type, dry or soup) with him to make sure he gets it right.

Ng Kee may only serve up one dish, but they certainly do it well.
