De Ji Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle – Hidden Gem Hawker Serves Tender & Flavourful Soy Chicken

Soy sauce chicken is a traditional Cantonese dish that is probably more popular in Hong Kong than in Singapore. I wasn’t really a fan of this dish until I came across De Ji Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle.

De Ji Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle (得记香港油鸡饭面) is a hawker stall at Taman Jurong Food Centre that sells soy sauce chicken rice and noodles dishes.

Note that it is a different stall from the Michelin-starred “Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle” at Chinatown Food Complex.

There is also a very similar stall at Boon Lay Food Village that shares the exact same menu and has a close name, but I’m not sure what is the relationship between the two stalls. Their food tastes alike too.

If it is your first time visiting, I recommend ordering the Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle ($4), which consists of springy noodles topped with a large tantalising drumstick. If you order the $3 portion, it comes with chicken wings instead. The stall also sells roast pork and char siew dishes.

I ordered the Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle ($4), which was really satisfying! The noodles were very tasty and springy with just the right amount of bite.

The highlight was the chicken drumstick, which had a rich soy sauce aroma. The fatty skin was oily and glistening with a very smooth texture – a sinful indulgence that I didn’t even feel guilty about.

But what impressed me the most was how tender and juicy the meat was – one of the best I had ever eaten!

The soup was warm and savoury with a pleasant herbal fragrance. Remember to eat the chicken with their sweet-feisty chilli sauce too.

Conclusion

De Ji Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle serves one of the most tender and flavourful chicken I’ve ever eaten. While it does not enjoy crazy queues like some of the other stalls at the hawker centre, do consider checking it out – you will not regret it.
