G7 Live Seafood Restaurant – Geylang Eatery Famous For Frog Leg Porridge, Seafood and Zi Char Dishes
Frog porridge fans will be familiar with G7 Live Seafood Restaurant, a Geylang restaurant famous for their frog, seafood, and zi char dishes. Note that this eatery is not related to G7 Sinma Claypot Live Bull Frog Porridge at Bukit Timah (I have confirmed this with the respective restaurants).
G7 Live Seafood Restaurant’s history can be traced back to 1999, when 28 year old Johnny decided to set up a restaurant in Geylang selling frog leg porridge.
Since then, the menu has expanded significantly to include their famous Chilli Crab dish and a wide variety of other seafood and zi char delicacies.
Today, G7 is no longer run by Johnny, who retired in 2018 to spend more time with his family. The restaurant is now owned by W Food Empire, a global branding and manufacturing company in the F&B industry.
I visited G7 at 11am on a Saturday when the restaurant had just opened. It was airy and spacious, with plenty of ceiling fans to keep the space cool. This is definitely a nice place to dine with family and friends.
Not many people know this, but the restaurant actually has a second storey with air-conditioned private dining rooms.
The staff were generally quite friendly, and my food was served fast.

G7 is best known for their claypot frog porridge. The cheapest “2+1” set comes with three frogs and is priced at $16. The porridge is sold separately at $3 per pot.
There are two frog flavours available: Dried Chili and Ginger Spring.
Note that you cannot mix the two flavours. For example, you cannot have two spicy and one non-spicy frog for the 2+1 set.
Side dishes include the G7 Specialty Beancurd ($12), Marmite Pork Ribs ($24), Fried Egg w Shrimp ($12) and Sambal La-La ($18).
Other than the above, the extensive menu also offers over 200 other seafood and zi char dishes! These include the signature Chilli Crab ($9/100g), Live Soon Hock ($8.20/100g), Prawn Paste Chicken ($15), Hotplate Beancurd ($12/$18), and many more.
Dried Chilli Frog (2+1)
My Dried Chilli Frog ($16) was served steaming hot in an old-school claypot. The frog legs were plump, tender and juicy. I was hooked from the first bite!
The starchy dark sauce was delicious too, offering just the right amount of sweetness, umami and spiciness.
And of course, it is a must to eat the frog legs with the pot of hot peppery porridge ($3). I doused the thick congee with the gravy, creating a feisty and luscious combination that was a joy to slurp down.
Ginger Spring Onion Frog (2+1)
I also tried the Ginger Spring Onion Frog ($16). The frog legs were plump and tasty too, but as a spicy-food lover I definitely preferred the Dried Chilli flavour.
Go for this option only if you cannot take spicy food.
Deep Fried Frog Leg with Crispy Garlic
The Deep Fried Frog Leg with Crispy Garlic ($24) was another winner. I had never tried fried frog legs before, so I was curious as to how this would taste.
To my pleasant surprise, the frog legs were really tasty and juicy, with the rich garlic flavour permeating through the meat.
The highlight was the lovely crust, which was crispy enough to provide crunch but soft enough to melt away, once in my mouth, to give way to the flavours of the frog legs.
I highly recommend this dish!
G7 Specialty Beancurd
Last but not least, the G7 Specialty Beancurd ($12) was a simple dish that was cooked perfectly. The beancurd had a silky soft texture, going nicely with the savoury minced meat and tasty sauce.

Conclusion
If you enjoy eating frog legs, I highly recommend that you check out G7 Live Seafood Restaurant in Geylang. And besides their frog dishes, they offer plenty of other tantalising delicacies too. The restaurant has a nice environment that makes it a great place to enjoy delicious food with family and friends.
Incidentally, I was surprised to find out this G7 Geylang restaurant is unrelated to the G7 restaurant in Bukit Timah, even though their frog leg porridge taste very similar, and both eateries share identical logos and almost identical names. Let me know in the comments below if you know the story behind this phenomenon!
The restaurant gets really busy during peak hours, so make sure you call to make reservations to avoid disappointment.
