滋补养生小火锅 (Nourishing Mini Hotpot) – $5 Mini Hotpot Set Meal At Taman Jurong Food Centre
Taman Jurong Food Centre is home to plenty of awesome hawker stalls, and recently I went to check out the comforting mini hotpot from 滋补养生小火锅 (Nourishing Mini Hotpot). This article was last updated on 13 December 2020.
This stall serves affordable mini hotpot set meals, without the use of MSG. A middle-aged Chinese man runs the stall alone.
Be prepared to wait if you visit during peak hours, because the stall is quite popular. In addition, the owner has to prepare everything by himself.
When I went down at 6pm on a Sunday, there were around 10 people queueing ahead of me. I had to wait 30 minutes to get my hotpot meal.
Menu (click to enlarge)
The menu offers affordable hotpot set meals that consist of one meat type and a variety of other standard ingredients like enoki mushrooms, cabbage, fishballs, crabsticks, and hotdogs.
Below are the menu options:
- Pork Set Meal ($5)
- Chicken Set Meal ($5)
- Beef Set Meal ($6.50)
- Mutton Set Meal ($6.50)
- Prawn Set Meal ($5.50)
- Fish Set Meal ($5.50)
There are four hotpot soup bases available:
- Chicken
- Spicy
- Tom Yam
- Herbal
The carb options include rice ($0.50) and instant noodles ($0.50). You can also add on additional meat and vegetables, which will only cost you an additional $2 to $4.
Chicken Set Meal With Herbal Soup
I ordered the Chicken Set Meal with Herbal soup ($5). After everything was placed on the tray, I carefully picked it up and gingerly walked to my table. Be careful because the hotpot flame is quite fiery!
After settling down, I put all the meat and most of the other ingredients into the pot, before covering it with the metal lid to let the soup simmer.
Five minutes later, I removed the lid and a puff of steam gushed out, carrying with it the aroma of the steaming hotpot.
I enjoyed the broth, which was savoury with distinct sweet herbal notes. It had also absorbed the goodness of the other ingredients, giving it a rich and fragrant taste.
The chicken chunks were tender and juicy, with their taste elevated by the rich herbal broth.
The rest of the ingredients like the fishballs and hot dogs were fresh and tasty too. I like eating vegetables so I enjoyed the sweet crunch of the cabbage.
The savoury-feisty chilli served as the perfect condiment because it’s always satisfying to add a little spicy kick when eating hotpot!
The set meal comes with an egg, which you can use to coat the chicken before cooking to give it a more silky texture.
I advise cooking all the ingredients in one go, because the hotpot fire will burn out after a while.
Pork Set Meal With Tom Yam Soup
The wife tried the Pork Set Meal with Tom Yam soup ($5). The tom yam broth was tangy and feisty, though not really very robust.
The pork slices were tasty, but I felt they could have been more tender. But on the whole, this was still a satisfying hotpot meal. I highly recommend ordering this soup base if you enjoy eating spicy food.
Conclusion
滋补养生小火锅 (Nourishing Mini Hotpot) at Taman Jurong Food Centre serves comforting mini hotpot at an affordable price. While the soup and ingredients are not really “premium” quality, they are fresh and tasty, and will definitely leave you satisfied.
