Shrimp Prawn Seafood – Thai Style Claypot Vermicelli With Tiger Prawns, $5 Islandwide Delivery

Recently, I saw on my social media feed that many people have been visiting Shrimp Prawn Seafood. Their food looked delicious so I decided to check it out! This article was last updated on 09 September 2020.


Shrimp Prawn Seafood is a new restaurant known for its Thai-style claypot prawn vermicelli (Goong Ob Woon Sen).

The boss, Mr Alvin Tai, travelled many times to Bangkok to learn the recipe from a famous Thai stall.

Having mastered the dish, he set up a stall at Chatuchak Market in Singapore earlier this year, where his claypot vermicelli quickly became a hit.

Riding on this success, Alvin opened his first permanent restaurant along Circular Road in June 2020, before moving to a new location at Boat Quay in September 2020.

The signature dish here is the Claypot Prawn Vermicelli ($18.80). Other than prawns, you can also pair the vermicelli with other seafood like Mud Crab ($59.80, around 700g), Boston Lobster ($39.80), Scallops ($28.80), Clams ($13.80), etc.

The optional add-ons are Snow Crab Stick ($2), Abalone Slice ($2), and Extra Vermicelli ($2).

Besides vermicelli dishes, the menu also offers a Dog Mother (狗母锅) series, which consists of dishes like the Dog Mother Tiger Prawn ($22.80), Dog Mother Lala ($13.80), etc. These dishes are specially cooked using a Chinese clay cooking pot, which helps to bring out the best flavours of their premium ingredients.

Side dishes include Sweet & Spicy Drumlets ($14.80), Grilled Yakitori Chicken Skewers ($15.80), Spam Fries ($12.80), Calamari ($11.80), and more.

All their key ingredients are imported from Thailand.

Claypot Prawn Vermicelli ($18.80)


My Claypot Prawn Vermicelli ($18.80) was served piping hot. The huge tiger prawns covered most of the vermicelli, and the dish was topped with some spring onions and coriander.

The vermicelli was the highlight of the dish. It is cooked using the traditional bake cooking method, which the owner learnt in Thailand.

Having absorbed the goodness of the prawns and seasonings, the vermicelli was tasty, peppery, and packed with flavour. I was hooked from the first mouthful!

Fans of garlic will be happy to know that the dish comes with a generous amount of small Thai garlic cloves.


The tiger prawns were fresh, juicy and so satisfying! I would have preferred them to be served peeled, but the restaurant provided tissue and bowls for me to put the prawn shells.

The Thai-style green chilli sauce was very good and complemented the vermicelli and prawns perfectly.

Claypot Scallop Vermicelli


The Claypot Scallop Vermicelli ($28.80) was scrumptious too! I was surprised by how good the scallops tasted. They were plump and juicy, with a mild savoury-sweet taste.

I added the Snow Crab Stick ($2), which was very fresh and tasty too.

On the whole, this was another well-executed dish. Highly recommended.

Conclusion


Shrimp Prawn Seafood serves scrumptious seafood claypot vermicelli dishes that are tasty and packed with rich flavours. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I thought it was cool that I could order and pay just by scanning the QR code on the table. Overall, this is a good place to enjoy satisfying Thai-style vermicelli before chilling out with some drinks from the bar.
