Kok Kee Wanton Noodle – Famous Jurong Wanton Mee Stall That Rejected $2 Million Offer For Their Recipe

People staying in the west of Singapore will be familiar with Kok Kee Wanton Noodle 国记云吞面, an old school wanton mee stall located at Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre.

This branch is owned by Mr Sun Qingfa and his children. You might have heard of how Mr Sun famously rejected a two million dollars offer for his secret recipe back in 2019.

Beside this Jurong branch, there is also another branch located at Foch Road. It was originally located at Lavender Food Square but relocated to Foch Road in 2014.

The Foch Road branch was run by Mr Sun’s four other siblings, but they are said to have gone into retirement.

I visited the Jurong branch on a Thursday at 10am and was happy to see a short queue.

The lady taking my orders was friendly, though I’ve heard that the other female staff has a rather nonchalant attitude towards customers.

Menu

The stall is best known for their wanton noodles which are sold at $3.50 (small) and $4.50 (large).

Both sizes come with a bowl of soup containing two wanton dumplings, and the $4.50 plate comes with more noodles.

Note that Kok Kee Wanton Noodles does NOT serve their noodles with green chilli. I’m not sure for the reason behind this, but perhaps it’s because they do not want the chilli to overpower the noodles’ taste.

Delicious Wanton Noodles

My $3.50 wanton mee came with a generous amount of noodles even though it was supposed to be the “small” size.

The noodles were smooth and well-coated with the savoury sauce. It had an old school, nostalgic flavour which I enjoyed.

The only downside was that I found the noodles to be a tad too oily. According to a friend who eats here regularly, it seems the noodles have gotten more oily over the years.

The soup comes with two wanton dumplings. The dumpling skin was super smooth, and the meat fillings were tasty with a rich and fragrant meaty aftertaste.

Conclusion

It was very satisfying to eat Kok Kee’s wanton noodles for breakfast. You should definitely go check out this stall if the queue is not too long. Incidentally, their noodles reminded me of Yit Foh Wanton Mee, which is another old school wanton mee stall in Johor Bahru.
