Lucky Chicken Rice – Famous Chicken Rice Shop At Lucky Plaza, Popular With Indonesian Chinese

After reading many great reviews of Lucky Chicken Rice at Lucky Plaza, I decided to check it out for myself.

Lucky Chicken Rice is a well-known chicken rice eatery located on the second floor of Lucky Plaza. It is a no-frills establishment where customers dine on old school tables and wooden chairs.

The shop is very popular among Indonesian Chinese, including tourists and those staying at the Lucky Plaza apartments above the mall.

The reason is because they like visiting Orchard Road and it is convenient to enjoy some chicken rice at the air-conditioned mall.

I visited the restaurant at around 6pm on a Friday and it was almost empty. It was manned by a few elderly staff who were quite friendly.

Menu

The eatery serves both roast and steamed chicken rice, with prices starting from $5.

The menu also offers chicken noodles (from $4.50), porridge (from $3.80), and dumpling soup ($3/$5/$7). Side dishes include chicken gizzard ($1/$2/$3) and vegetables in oyster sauce ($3/$5/$7).

Roast and Steamed Chicken Platter

I decided to order a roast and steamed chicken platter, served separately from the rice. This cost $7.

The rice was savoury and fragrant with a moist texture. I found it to be quite appetising but you might not like it if you prefer the dry type of chicken rice.

The meat was tasty but a little tough and dry. The sauce was savoury but didn’t really impress.

They provide the standard condiments like ginger, black soya sauce, and chilli sauce, which helped to give the chicken rice extra flavours.

Conclusion

After reading so many positive reviews online, I was slightly disappointed by my experience at Lucky Chicken Rice. Perhaps my expectations had been too high. Of course, their chicken rice is by no means bad, only a little average in our vast sea of chicken rice eateries. And at least the prices were quite affordable considering that the shop is located at Orchard Road.
